I'm talking about the regular Christmas cash flow stress that affects everybody in the trades industry. You might be closing for two weeks, but wages, rent, and other stuff still needs to be paid.
Download your free Cash Plan now.
Payroll: Employees on the books need paying even if they are on holiday. Subcontractors and casuals don't.
Fixed Costs: Rent, insurance, vehicles, etc., still need paying.
The Lag: If customers pay 30 days out, your money shortage hits late January—plan for cash, not invoices.
Slow Payers: If your customers also have a cash crunch, your lack of money could last longer.
Don't Forget: GST, PAYG, and Super payments you'll need to cover.
Do the plan now. If you have a deficit, you'll need time to figure out how to cover it (personal savings, business overdraft, etc.).
Income (Money In):
Project Trades: Project Progress Payments you think you can raise based on progress made.
Maintenance Tradies: Anticipated work volume or days you're trading.
Always: Don't forget payments for bills from previous weeks—it's bills paid, not just work done.
Costs (Money Out):
Employees on the books (incl. tax + super + holiday loading) + Your wage.
Rent, Car payments, Power, Phones, Fuel, Insurances, Coach, Marketing, etc.
Crucially: Don’t forget the GST, PAYG & Super you’ll need to pay.
The Scramble: If you do have a deficit, you're going to have to cover it. You can borrow from personal savings or get a business overdraft. The win is knowing what you're up against now.
